USA: Unbelievably Stupid Americans
It is sometimes really embarrassing to be American. I mean really embarrassing. It's bad enough that you now have grocery stores around the country with motorized carts. Why? You might think for the elderly or the handicapped. But no. It's mainly for the fat, the massively fat, disgustingly fat, grotesquely fat that seem to be all over the US these days. Then if you aren't dealing with that turn on the boob tube. You get disgusting shows like Jerry Springer. And the idiots who aren't falling for that are getting their Jesus fix on some other station. The country is a cultural wasteland populated by Bible-believing morons. About the only time an American evens realizes another country exists is when the Head Moron invades it.
Around the world people look aghast at the US and wonder how a total dunce like Bush could be elected. He was elected because he's one of the people. The dumbing down of America via the government schools is now taking its toll. The greedy teacher unions that see the schools as a welfare scheme for incompetent teachers have achieved their goal. Americas are now routinely dumb. And if you want proof of this look at a new study. Who do Americans hate the most? Who do they distrust and think are "un-American" more than anyone else?
Fundamentalists who want to rip up the First Amendment? No. Muslim nut cases who blow people up while they pretend they will spend eternity with a bunch of virgins? N0!
The number one group that Americans love to hate are those dangerous atheists. Get this from the press release on the poll: "Americans rate atheists below Muslims, recent immigrants, gays and lesbians and other minority groups in 'sharing their vision of American society.' Atheists are also the minority group most Americans are least willing to allow their children to marry."
Penny Edgell, associate sociology professor and the study’s lead researcher said: “Americans believe they share more than rules and procedures with their fellow citizens—they share an understanding of right and wrong. Our findings seem to rest on a view of atheists as self-interested individuals who are not concerned with the common good.”
As long as you believe in the divine tooth fairy, a cosmic easter bunny, some grand poohba of eternity, they you're an okay fella. Don't fall for the bullshit and something is very wrong with you buddy. Now they have no problem with Mormons who think they will all become gods through the secret, Masonic-resembling, rituals of their temples. They are okay fellas. Even those fundy types with 30 wives who throw the boys out of town so they can have the teenage girls for themselves. See, those guys, they believe in what Americans believe. Not like them atheists.
Of course another poll recently showed that atheists are far less likely to endorse the use of torture. But then torture is a fine Christian tradition. They've done it for thousands of years. Sure they took a century or so off but that was because of them damn liberals who preached that atheistic human rights stuff. But now that "God's folk" are taking charge again well, maybe, a little torture isn't such a bad thing?
People around the world can not believe how stupid America has become. Americans are people who want to throw science out of the schools and bring Jesus in. As if the kids aren't screwed up enough already. That people could actually believe this way is so astoundingly shocking that I'm not even sure what to say. Actually, I will say what I've said for several years now. If you value reason, freedom and individualism get out now. The United States is going into a decline that is more rapid than you can imagine. It is a cultural wasteland. It is run by an idiot. There are only other idiots waiting in the wings to take over. And when it collapses in on itself the stupid and the obese will find their little go carts won't work. But it won't matter because the grocery shelves will be empty. The US has spent its financial capital and is bankrupt. It has spent its moral capital and now substitutes Jesus stories for a moral compass. And it has spent its intellectual capital. Thomas Jefferson is dead. George Bush lives. So get out and do it as quickly as you can.
I’m pissed. Just in case you can’t tell.

Did you get in trouble with the store manager for messing with the electric carts?
Your attempts to rewrite history always cracks me up. That's pretty funny stuff.
You're always railing against those you think hold you in distain but you spew more venom then most.
What country is better?

Pirate: you have a very odd defintion of "rewriting history". Where is the history that was rewritten? Where is the history? Spewing venom, as you call it, is different from demanding that people be stripped of their rights. The Religious Right has contempt for human rights and I have contempt for them because of it.
Ghost: I think that the trends in the US are too big and that fighting it out may only destroy your own life. The time to fight for the Englightenment in the US has passed. It's now time to preserve that tradition someplace else so that when the rubble is cleared here it will have survived someone where and hopefully be reimported.

Let's just start with the blanket statement that has little if any validity. "Americans are routinely dumb". Your vision must be poor if you can live in this great country and enjoy the freedoms and the materials the "dumb" Americans have provided to you. No other country can hold a candle to our accomplishments neither economically or through their government. Our public and private sectors far exceed that of any country on this big ball.
Secondly, I would be surprised if the atheist would even be in the top ten for the average American on the street if asked who he dispises in the world.
Atheist are basically non-entities when it comes to people assessing their surroundings. They are harmless and few if any really care of what they think.

I don't think I have ever advocated removing atheists. We need them around to keep the other 85% honest.
I wouldn't advocte any free state movement because of the inability to self-sustain themselves these days.

just a heads up. A libertarian is described as a pot smoking Republican. You might want to be careful who you run with. We libertarians are often considered a little kookie.

I'll try to comment briefly in order:
Pirate: Americans provided me with nothing that I didn't buy. That is an exchange of value for value not a gift. They no provided for me than I provided for them. It's exchange. Second, I have lived outside the US enough to have an actual point of comparison. And I know there are many places in the world that are fantastic places to live. The US is in decline. It's rating for economic freedom is dropping rapidly. If you want my prediction as to the best place to be in the next few years I would say Eastern Europe. Estonia, Latvia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Croatia. All very impressive and lots of energy and freedom. Estonia is more economically free than the US but then so are around 9 other countries. If you don't like the poll complain to the people who took it not me.
Ghost: No the Free State Project is doomed to fail due to the lack of political sovreignty for NH. The most odious oppression is federal and NH can't do much about that. Even the brother of Amanda Phillips, (she runs the project or did), moved to New Zealand. The Feds can come into NH anytime they want. NZ is another matter. And it's freer than the US in economics and socially. As for religion what you say is true but only for the US. Only the US and Islamic nations have this kind of religiousity. Most other English speaking nations do not. All the major political leaders in NZ, for instance, are atheists.
For the record I've never smoked pot (or anything else) and consider myself a libertarian.

No Indigenous American traditionalist heathen, including a Libertarian one like myself, appreciates the European invasion of the Americas to this day. However, in spite of that invasion, good things have nevertheless evolved out of European-American society, particuarly since the 20th Century, which have improved the human condition. Primarily they have been advancements in medical science and technology. And in spite of some boring trash that is produced, the American motion picture industry overall gets an "A" in creativity.
On the down side, what makes America still stink are all of its Judeo-Christian religious zealots and theocrats, and it's two intrusive, hypocritcal and corrupt political parties--the Demosocialists and Theopublicans.
I've never met a contemporary European I didn't like. A Frenchman once told me that although the French by-and-a-large don't look too favorably upon American culture and particuarly their current politics, the ancestors of the French and most of the rest of western Europe in particular are to blame for the creation of the American Frankenstein Monster, which is primarily populated by people of mongrel European ancestry.
As for better countries to live in, Canada has the world's higest standard of living, although you pay for it in higher taxes.
The Republic of Ireland is currently rated as the most desireable European country to live in economically and standard-of-living-wise.
As for countries with greater economic freedom and individual liberties, there are number of them greater than the United States in addition to the one's godlesszone mentioned.

I didn't say I didn't like the poll. I said I have a hard time believing it. As for the Eastern block they deifnately have fine looking women. I also like their lust for the capitalist way. They could teach the left a thing or two about business and self-reliance.
I totally agree with you about the American decline. I think the left has done a fine job of cutting off the balls of this society and feminized it to the nth degree. We not only tolerate deviance we celebrate it. And i'm not talking of homosexuals. i'm talking about the sexualization of the young in this nation and the zest to find excuses for people's actions so they aren't held responsible.
March 24, 2006
And what I said is you have any concern, problem, disbelief, etc abou the poll take it up with the pollsters. I have to wonder about the sexualization of the young. What do you mean? In the past kids in the US married barely into their teens and lived independent lives. But they were taught how to live. Now people are handed it and not taught it. Then they become bad parents and the process goes on and on with most adults only finally growing up years after they should have.

Sexualizing the youth to the level tht a 14 year old girl thinks getting knocked up and having a kid without marrying the sperm donor. Then she comes knocking on the door of the government that hands out the support without strings.
Somewhere in the last 30 years it has become socially acceptable to have a kid out of wedlock and expect the rest of us to financially support her family from womb to tomb.
I have little problem of 16 year olds having kids if they take full responsibility in the finances of raising the kid.
Personally I could careless what people do with themselves as long as they don't expect others to foot the bill when it goes array.
My parents were high school when I was born and the only assistance i recall from my youth was from direct family members. My folks finished school, went to college and worked full time as they raised four kids by the time they were 22.
March 25, 2006
I think we are on the same page here. The confusion is that what you are talking about is the aspect of society taking responsibility and that is not the same thing as sexualizing teens. What it is is removing consequences to actions thus encouraging the actions that lead to bad consequences. What I mentioned was that in the past teens had families and took responsibility for them. They matured because 1) they had to and 2) they were allowed to. Socialism destroys that by removing unwanted consequences to human choices. If I pay your credit card every month you will over spend. Morals are like credit cards. When govt. says it will pay the bill (ie resolve the consequences) then people morally overspend.

excellent point. I agree individula fredoms must exist with few restraints. the restraints must have accountability to society and to the individual.
