Pope's agenda is anti-libertarian
Pope Benedict XVI is a sad old man deluded by the idea that he is the vicar of Christ on earth. Right!
Well the Western Catholic Reporter of Canada reports that the Pope has an agenda. They report: "Second on his agenda will be to challenge the libertarian idea of freedom, which the pope sees as a 'tremendously impoverished view.'" If anyone is an expert on impoverished views of the world then the old man in Rome is certainly one of them.
The Pope's view is that "true" freedom is following the church's edict.
This Pope is worse than the last one and the last one was no winner. But then bad ideas come with the job.
Most people are used to seeing Ratzinger in papal drag. We thought a photo of him in his Hitler Youth uniform more appropriate.

Freedom in God is the surrender of yourself to world influeneces.
Since I am not Catholic I agree he has no more of a voice with God as you and I.
Why do you fear these types?

Why do you embrace authoritarianism? Have you no respect for Jefferson, the Constitution, the ideas in the Declaration of Independence? Your first sentence is incoherent. The second is key. Like every religionist you assume that what you believe is godly and what others believe is not. You aren't Catholic so the Catholics are wrong. They aren't Baptist so the Baptists are wrong. The Mormons think the Jews wrong. I think they are all right with one small exception. They each think they have a line to some deity. You don't. It's all in your mind. You make it up as you go along and convince yourself that you are following god except you all follow in different directions. I just won't delude myself.
As to fearing these types just look at history. That's a book with facts in it so it's not the Bible. Everytime these types have taken control people died!

what makes you think I'm religious? Your diatribe leads one to believe you are the one deep in some religion.

What makes me think you are religious? You! You speak of "freedom in God" and list on your profile that one of your favorite books is the Bible. Are you saying you are not religious? (And don't pull the trick of saying no by defining yourself as "spiritual" instead. I mean religious in sense of believing in a supernatural being, etc?

thanks for the clarity. i tend to associate religious folks with those who arm themselves with some man made diatribe and spend their waking hours trying to impose their beliefs on others.
I'm impressed you read my profile. by listing one of my favorite books as thebible just means I have read what you claim to oppose and am better infomred then you when it comes to being a Christian but not necessarily better then you for it. Just more informed.

At some point you have to just get embarrassed about all your presuppositions that are proven wrong. I graduated from a Christian school. I went to a christian seminary for two years. I took courses on hermeneutics, apologetics, bible history, theology. I preached in churches during my seminary years. And no it wasn't a left-wing, liberal seminary. So far virtually every assumption you have made is wrong. I also notice that your other posts are becoming increasingly abusive. A trait I've seen in others religious folks so if you wish to post here please turn it down a notch.
So I don't know if you are better informed about the Bible than I am. But I certainly didn't lack training in that field despite your false assumptions to the contrary.
And I have zero desire to impose my beliefs on others. I make my case. No one is forced to come here and read what I write. I wouldn't have that. I don't believe in imposing anything on people. I actually think people ought to be free to make up their own minds and live with the consequences. You don't, certainly not when it comes to abortion. You favor compulsion and I favor choice. So who is imposing their beliefs?

I apologize if you sense abuse in my comments. I oppose any violence when debating and hope I have not offended your sensitivities.
As for abortion you couldn't be any further from my position if you tried. I oppose abortions but will stand beside anyone defending their right to choose.
I just think there is too damn much bull coming from both sides on this debate. It sickens me to think we have become a country that yammers away at a no win issue and call it political debate.

If you defend the right to choose then we are on the same side. I have not attempted to make a case on whether abortion is right or wrong. I have defended the right for individuals to decide. I doubt, if miracles happened and I was forced to choose, that I would have an abortion. But I will not strip women of that right themselves. Free choice period. Rarely is the advocate of freedom saying that the choices people make are always goods or even right. I just respect their right to choose. And that is why I oppose the religious conservatives and the Islamic fundamentalists and the socialist!

we stand on the same principle then. I to dislike the sounds coming from the self-appointed religious leaders. i see them on equal standing as the money changers who met Christ's ire. I am confident that some day they will all have their tables over turned as well. But i do not let their desire to be God ruin my relationship with him.
As for socialists i use to date a girl from Finland in the mid 70s and always thought if this is the type of woman the socialist produce i am all for it. then I met her sister.
